    Sonic Shifter Hex

    #SonicSH-GP

This two speed transmission gearbox provides speed and torque when necessary. Eight different gearing ratios and two shaft options are available for this top-of-the-line, robust gearbox. That's 16 different options! This shift-on-the-fly gearbox, uses a dog gear shifting method. Motor input accepts two CIM motors, or two AM Planetary Gearboxes or a combination of either (both not included). Two two shaft options are a round 1/2" 4140 steel shaft with a 1/8" keyway or 1/2" 7075 aluminum hex shaft.

    Key Features:

    • The output shaft is centered on the gearbox.
    • CIM motor inputs centered on the gearbox.
    • The Sonic Shifter is lighter than the AM Shifter and Super Shifter designs.
    • Wider variety of gear ratio and shaft options available.
    • Will be shipped with an am-3132 encoder pre-installed.

    Sonic Shifter Ratio Breakdown:
A color coded graphic accompanied by a ratio breakdown shows which gears are used where and what ratios they form for each sonic shifter.
    Sonic Shifter Ratio Breakdown

    Shift Style:
Two shifting methods are available for the Sonic Shifter. The pneumatic method is much stronger and faster than the servo method.

    • Pneumatic:
      • A pneumatic cylinder, Bimba model 04-0.5-DP, 3/4" bore x 1/2" stroke, (not included) shifts between high and low gear. This cylinder mounts with a5/8-18 nut (not included). This is a strong, fast method of shifting, lasting under 0.5 seconds and pushing with 26 pounds of force (if using 60 psi). This pneumatic shift can be done while a robot is accelerating.
    • Servo:
      • A Servo Shifting hardware pack is available (am-2297), but not included with this product.
      • A Hi-Tech Servo, model HS-422HD is included in am-2297, using an actuation fork to shift between the 2 gear settings. This is a slow, weaker method of shifting (compared to pneumatic), taking 1.5-2 seconds and pushing with up to 8.5 pounds of force. A robot driver may need to back off of the throttle to let a servo shift gears while moving.

    Motor Input:

    • Sonic Shifters come with needed hardware to mount 2 CIMs
    • Designed for 2 (or 1) motor inputs
    • Use CIM motors or AM Planetary Gearboxes or a combination of both

    Product Usage:
All AndyMark gearboxes require grease for proper operation and long life. We suggest using our red tacky grease, am-2768. We also encourage that the user powers the gearbox continuously for 30 minutes without grease to allow the gear teeth to wear in. While we do design with short run times in mind, this 'run in' period for smooth gearbox operation, is recommended. Once this is completed, thorough grease of the gear teeth periodically to ensure smooth operation.

Thanks to Evan from 2470 and Sean from 2489 for our new gearbox name, the "Sonic Shifter."

Designed to be used with US Digital Encoders. This is designed to fit onto the AndyMark SpinBox This is a redesign as it used to use the CIM Spacer (am-0555). We found that it was to wide for the CIM Motors with it's current key placement. We now use three of the CIM spacer 125 which is about half the width to allow the key on the shaft to fit in the gear.

    #am-0114
    $481.24
    (In stock)

This shift-on-the-fly gearbox, uses a dog gear shifting method. Motor input accepts two CIM motors, or two AM Planetary Gearboxes or a combination of either (both not included). The output shaft is a 1/2" 4140 steel shaft with a 1/8" keyway.

The Super Shifter includes hardware for pneumatic shifting, but the pneumatic cylinder is not included. Pneumatic shifting hardware is installed as standard. Servo shifting hardware is available as an additional hardware package ( am-2442).

Three differences compared to the AM Shifter design:

    • An extra reduction stage is included. This stage allows for direct drive applications of 4", 6" and 8" wheels.
    • The output shaft extends from the side of the gearbox, as opposed to being captured within the side plates.
    • A 2" wide aluminum box tube is used as a protective spacer, safely enclosing the transmission.

    Shift Style:
Two shifting methods are available for the Super Shifter. The pneumatic method is much stronger and faster than the servo method.

This is a slow, weaker method of shifting (compared to pneumatic), taking 1.5-2 seconds and pushing with up to 8 pounds of force. A robot driver may need to back off of the throttle to let a servo shift gears while moving.

Total Weight: approx. 4.0 lbs., without motors or pneumatic cylinder installed

    (In stock)

This is AndyMark's newest shifting two-speed transmission, with all the features you already enjoyed on a Sonic Shifter, plus a third motor input. This shift-on-the-fly gearbox, uses a dog gear shifting method. Motor input accepts three CIM motors, three AM Planetary Gearboxes or a combination of either.

Three main differences between this transmission and the Sonic Shifter:

    • Super Sonic Shifter can have 3 CIM Motor input.
    • Super Sonic Shifter has a larger (50T) gear meshing with the CIM gear (14T).
    • Super Sonic Shifter does not have the last stage that the Sonic Shifter (and Super Shifter) does have.

    Specification:

    • Low Ratio: 11.4:1
    • High Ratio: 4.5:1

    Key Features:

    • The output shaft is centered on the gearbox.
    • Three CIM motor inputs are symmetrically centered on the gearbox.
